Swaying. That was the first thing Lara became aware of. Was she aboard the Endurance? Had the storm been just a dream?
Lara Croft is a young archaeology graduate student, out on her first expedition in search of the lost island of Yamatai. Yamatai was once the home of a great kingdom ruled by the "Sun Queen" Himiko whose descendants, the Nishimura's had agreed to fund Lara's expedition. It was Lara's belief that the island was located somewhere in the Dragons Triangle off the coast of Japan. Accompanying her is her close friend Samantha Nishimura, who zealously filmed the expedition for a documentary, and Lara's mentor Conrad Roth, an ex-marine turned adventurer. Leading the expedition is the pompous (and nearly bankrupt) Dr. Whitman, who never let Lara forget who was in charge.
As they entered the Dragons Triangle a terrible storm kicked up, tossing the ship back and forth as the captain fought for control. Lara barely had time to react as the ship cracked in two and she fell into the dark waters...
Or that's what she thought happened. She seemed to be alive amidst the gentle rocking of the ship but her head was killing her. 'Why can't I feel my legs?' she thought. It took Lara several moments to realize that she was hanging upside-down and was practically immobile.
"What the-" she croaked, opening her eyes to see a dimly lit cave. She was hanging from the ceiling, tightly wrapped in rags like some kind of cocoon. Looking around she spied a knife stuck into another cocoon on her left and... someone hunched next to a fire?
(Authors Note: This was my first story on CHYOA so the early writing will probably be all over the place.
