Halloween Tales: Monsters In Plain Sight

A collection of short stories, unified by a loose theme.

Chapter 1 by Leonine_Knight Leonine_Knight

For many monsters living in our world, there is no better time than Halloween. For some, the liminal state it represents allows them to pass more easily to and from the other world. For others, their powers and rituals become more potent. For others still, it presents a rare opportunity for them to hide in plain sight, to share their true form with witless mortals and not fear the consequences.

There are even those for whom the holiday has sentimental value, perhaps on account of a past life they may have lived as a mortal or because it flatters their ego when they see so many people imitating their form. Then again, monsters may exist, somewhere out there, who resent the holiday.

These are the tales of such beings, witches and warlocks; vampires, ghouls and psychic leeches; werewolves and other half-human beasts; ghosts and poltergeists and many more sinister spirits; succubae, cambions, incubi, demons and devils; and many more creatures, some that defy comprehension.

Which monster shall we follow into the dark?
