Galaxies End

Humanity is not alone.

Chapter 1 by Dai-katana Dai-katana

They told us to keep a journal as we began our travels. I didn't see the point but after We left the Sol system, I think they're right. The Explorers Guild I mean. So a little bit about myself, I'm John Smith and I am a Human male aboard my ship the Salamander. Myself and my crew of two other friends from Mars have left the supercity there in order to find our own way about the galaxy.
Kaylee is an old friend, born on Mars to a couple engineers that helped build the spaceport there. She's about my height, lithe, blonde, and way smarter than I am when it comes to tech, hence why she's our engineer on the Salamander. She always jokes about how 'It runs in the family!' whenever she says something a little too up there for myself or Briggs to get but we both love her dearly for it. She keeps the ship running at its peak. I see her smiling at me from across the mess table as we eat, her eyes a bright shade of violet.
Briggs however, he's the security expert. Kaylee's brother didn't take the route their parents wanted for them and joined the military several years back and got out once his contract was up. Kinda intimidating, he's a big guy with chest and arms that would make anyone triple think trying to take him on. He has this close cropped black hair that I swear he cuts himself, and he's always carrying his light pistol on his hip. Kaylee likes to joke about how he looks like one of those old cowboys you see in the holovids but I'm glad he's here. Never know when something crazy might happen. Kaylee's done eating so I'm gonna finish up and head back to the pilot station. Flying's what I do best after all!

You left port about a week ago and took the Bridge to the frontier. It was the culmination of humanities efforts, a kind of shipway that could send humans to other star systems. It opens a wormhole at a point near the gravity-well of something, opening up a two way portal between the Sol system and its second point. Earth like planets aren't as few and far between, thankfully, as the 21st century scientists once thought, and non-human life and even sentience is very prominent in the galaxy.

You and your friends left the Sol system to make your own way, hoping to find riches or romance in your travels aboard your ship. Its normally crewed by ten persons, but is easily manned by the three of you. It holds a cargo bay complete with an outfitter station for space suits and tools, the Nest where you fly and generally operate the ship with Kaylee and Briggs, a medical bay, and a crew quarters with a communal eating area. You feel the sudden deceleration of the ship and know that you've dropped out of the Bridgeway and wiping up head to the bridge followed by the other two.

Looking out the front view port, you immediately steer the ship towards the verdant green planet waiting below. You land the ship and find an oxygen rich atmosphere, scans report life To the North and South a short ways away from the ship and you decide to explore a bit.

Which direction are you going to head in?
