200 years ago, in the age of enlightenment, men found out that women have no soul. It made men believe women are nothing more than things to be owned.

Stealing or damaging any owned woman is still illegal, but it is seen as similar to breaking or stealing someone's car. That is why being owned is very important for a girls savety.

Girls are owned by their fathers until they turn 18. Then they are sold and married to a new husband. Some girls are expensive and some can't even find somebody to care for them when offering themselves for free.

Technology in this world is very advanced, and getting body modifications (mods) for your property is the norm. Some mods are very expensive. Because of that, owning a heavily modded woman is seen as a symbol of wealth.
