Ed is trapped in a Gameworld

Ed was an average guy, with an average life, an average job and an average wife. He'd reached an age were he would already have achieved anything in life that he ever would, his wife had recently realised this and quickly grew disillusioned with his apparent lack of ambition as she tried to encourage him to better himself while pursuing her own career.

They slipped into a stereotypical routine of childless middle aged married couples, she spent her evenings watching soap operas or reality shows on tv and he spent them playing computer games, at the weekends they did chores and shopping, it was a boring life for them and without spending time they together they barely noticed it as they drifted apart. Eventually and without much drama she left him, maybe if he'd fought for her she would have changed her mind but Ed was too wrapped up in himself and past caring to engage with the world. Provided he had food, beer, porn and games to play he was content and when she moved out he was able to expand his mancave to the rest of the house.

Even though he was a grown man he slipped into the habits of a teenager, he rarely left his sanctuary unless necessary and had little motivation in life beyond earning enough to pay the bills and spending his free time levelling up his current character or looking up mods for his games.

Time passed and fate found Ed sitting in his underwear playing his latest game late at night with an empty pizza beside him and soda cans scattered carelessly around him. Ed felt a pain in his chest, there was a blinding light and the feeling of falling. With an aching head he opened his eyes to find the world had changed around him.

What Ed saw as he looked around astonished him, if he had had any friends then he may have believed that an elaborate prank had been played on him. That perhaps someone had slipped onto him the most realistic VR headset in history, with all five senses fully engaged in the world he now found himself in.

It appeared that he was now inside the game that he had been playing, his mind was all over the place as he wondered whether he had been kidnapped by some really intense LARPers? (Live action role players). Had aliens kidnapped him, was this a government experiment, was this heaven or hell? Where in the world was he? Taking deep breaths he tried to take in his surroundings more closely.
