Clothes make the Wearer

People believe they are whatever outfit they put on, and hyper-focus on behaving as such.

Chapter 1 by bullet1520 bullet1520

As our fair MC walks down the street of the bustling city, a small shred of fabric drifts by in the wind. It's gleaming, lustrous even. It catches the eye and holds it. They feel drawn to it, heavily, and begin chasing it. Something about this fabric makes them feel as though they need it. After a few blocks of running, and looking like an absolute fool to everyone who saw, our protagonist catches it.
It feels like no other fabric they'd ever felt before, and sends shivers down their spine. Sitting down on a nearby bench, they spend an unknown amount of time staring at it. Lunch break is long finished at work, we can assume that much.
Suddenly, a person whose face and body were blurred by the lingering effects of staring at the fabric walks to our protagonist.
"Nice piece of cloth you got there!"
Snapping out of their daze, our character looks at the person, confused, before registering what had been said to them.
"Oh! Yeah, it's beautiful! Do you have any idea what it is? I'd love to know."
The person replies "Yes, in fact, I do!" said with a tone of voice that hints at a smirk being present. "It's quite a unique piece of fabric. It tore from a special swatch I'd been working with. One slip of the scissors, and that piece went flying out the window! I had hoped to recover it, but it seems to have caught your attention quite raptly!"
You nod silently, hoping this means he'll let you keep the piece of fabric.
"Tell you what. How about we get acquainted, I clue you in on what that really is, and I let you keep that small piece of my most marvelous creation. Deal?"

Does that sound good?
