Joe needs answers to some fundamental questions, and the quickest way to answers has to be going somewhere he can see what’s going on.

He heads down the corridor and finds that the light is inside a bathroom. It is a huge bathroom – many sinks and shower stalls lining down the walls. And of course, he recognises it, shock though the recognition is.

His heart is beating like a military drum. What on earth? It isn’t supposed to be like this, is it? Why has he come here? This is his old boarding school! The room he’d just been in must have been one of the dormitories he’d been in – the other beds full of other boys.

Other boys – looking in the mirror now, Joe has another shock. All these shocks couldn’t be good for his heart… in the mirror, it wasn’t his familiar self looking back, but not much more than a boy, a teenager. It was him, of course, but a much younger him. His heart would be okay, then… Goodness, he is back at school!

It’s absolutely amazing – his whole form is so trim, so firm, so tender. There’s not so much hair on him, his frame is so fit and athletic, his skin soft and healthy, his blue eyes clear, without the bleary, bloodshot look. He's 18 again!

That will have to wait until morning: there is nothing he can do until then. Quietly, he walks back down the corridor. He might as well get some sleep. It is going to be quite a day tomorrow, suddenly being back at school again, dealing with situations and issues he hasn’t dealt with for so many years.

But as he turns back into the dormitory, he has a thought: what if he doesn’t go to sleep? Why doesn’t he have some fun, explore the old place again, re-acquaint himself with the school? Hell, he’s only young… well, twice! And if he’s caught, he might be punished, but as an old man inside a young man’s body, he knows that any such punishment will have zero affect on his long-term future. He might as well have an adventure…
