"Fine," the guard complied. Magic was replentishable, their royal family was not. Shiro nodded her affirmation and shook the guard’s hand. She hadn’t any plans to sell the princess out to the bandits anyway, but why not milk the kingdom for what she could?

“Very well. I assure you the good lady will reach there safely. You’ve been here, what, a day?”
The guard nodded. “Going on two. We waiting for some reinforcements yesterday but couldn’t reach any nearby.”
“Then we had better move before noontime. Your highness?” Shiro knelt before her curtly, raising her bright green eyes to her. “If you’ll put your trust in me…”

The princess seemed stirred when she met her gaze, and nodded. Shiro rose and took her hand. “We should get moving, then. I’ll make some preparations and be back momentarily…”
