...eat quickly and start your prep.
The last rays of dusk gently infiltrated the kitchen windows. It was time for some food before it got too dark and the stars came out. You brought notebooks, sketchbooks, a laptop, a second telescope, and more to prepare for a night of viewing.
You opted not to make use of the items provided in the cabin just yet, and consumed the first of two sandwiches you brought. Then, it was off to get things prepped on the balcony.
As prep began, the sun was already well below the horizon. Apparently, more time had been lost exploring the cabin and eating a sandwich than anticipated. The peak time for potential auroras would be just past midnight, however. So, it was pretty certain that you could settle in for several hours before any might appear.
With nearly everything ready, one problem remained. The case of adjustable lenses for your telescope wasn't with the other gear. Was it in one of the stuffed packs of food or clothes? Packing had been a bit rushed, but it seemed unlikely that you would have put it in any of those, and you were certain you didn't leave it behind altogether.
