The doorway turned out to have a short hallway behind it. The first room was a bathroom, simple and spotless from tub to sink to toilet. Several other doors in the hall revealed closets and cupboards with linens, non-perishable foods, towels, and miscellaneous occasionally useful household items.

One final doorway on the right revealed... a staircase to the basement.

There were already a few too many things about the cabin that, though reasonable, didn't sit right. The basement seemed a bit much for now. As you moved to click the lock on the doorknob, you gave it a second thought. Was it locked before you opened it? And, for that matter, was it necessary to lock the basement from above? Yeah; it was probably best to just leave it locked.
