a magic target

Shiro met the mark in a fairly uptown inn, a woman in pale green robes marked with various trimming and patterns. The markings made the samurai wary as she sat down with her, the woman folding shut the book she was reading.

"I understand you posted the ad," Shiro said.
The woman nodded. She had short brown hair and a creamy complexion with glasses over her dark eyes. "That I am. Who am I hiring?"
"Shiro," she said calmly. "And you are a magi."
"A mage," the woman corrected knowingly. "And I'm Lorna."
"And why would a spellcaster need my protection?"

She shrugged her robed shoulders. "There's things magic can't catch. And I'll be doing my final research while in town before I can present it to the council, but I'll be caught up in that. I need an extra set of eyes that won't be distracted, because not everybody wants me to outdo them in The Arts."
