You have a sharp mind

You sit down on the couch in your office, pressing a button to turn on the hologram viewing screen. You sigh - a good number of sailors had been killed or wounded in yesterday's engagement. The mysterious note has also occupied your mind.

"Hammer of control" it had mentioned. But what power did the hammer of control carry? Perhaps its gift was as simple to grasp as its name suggested?

Kate returns a few minutes later, having set the windows to blackout, with a tray and coffee. You thank her, and ask her to leave the tray on the coffee table. Before leaving, she turns and ask if you'd like anything else.

"Go sit in my chair," you tell her, an idea flickering to life.

She takes a step over towards your desk, before turning to you, "Admiral, what's this for?"

"Just sit in the chair," you respond. Kate nods and sits herself in your chair, facing you.

"Now take the hammer from my bottom right drawer, and break the desk's display." You know this is a more drastic order, and Kate might refuse under normal circumstances. However, despite shooting a puzzled look at you, she pulls out the hammer. Raising her hand, she brings it down on the desk, shattering it. She jumps back as the crystal display explodes, almost falling out of the chair.

"I'm not sure why I did that!" she exclaims.
