Chapter 10
by TeratonArm
How does the conversation go?
You get interrupted, Sarah gets an eyeful.
As still as she is, it almost seems like Sarah is asleep, and you stand there for a moment, awkwardly shifting on the sand in silence, before she cranes her neck back and lowers her sunglasses to get a look at you.
"Oh. Hey... Sam," she says, stretching her arms and rolling over to take a sitting position, "What's up?"
"Oh, nothing much, just wanted to say thanks for keeping your word back there." You chuckle a little nervously, remembering the extent of your shared exposure. "I don't think I could have done it if I didn't have someone else doing the same thing right next to me." A slight smirk tugged at the ends of Sarah's lips.
"Truth be told, I almost didn't join you," she says, her mildly bemused expression not changing in the slightest while you can feel your own friendly smile falter a bit. In hind-sight-- bad phrase to use-- in retrospect, you already let the cameras catch your bare ass, so maybe it didn't sting as much as it could have, but... the idea that Sarah apparently could have just as easily thrown you under the bus as not meant this conversation was not exactly going the way you would have wanted.
"But I felt like that'd be a jerk move," Sarah continued, leaning back on her towel to lie on her side, still looking up at you. "Don't get me wrong, I've got my eyes on the prize, but might as well be a team player while we're still playing in teams, right?" That was a little more encouraging, at least. "Besides, if I'm going to be too afraid to show a little skin on the first challenge, then I'm definitely not going to be ready for what's to come." That part, a little less so, but still.
"Yeah," you say, "Exactly. See, I kind of wanted to ask you something..." You falter for a moment, not really sure how to propose an alliance without really outright saying it. "I figure, we watched each other's backs in the race..."
"Oh, yes?" Sarah says, and there's that smirk again, "exactly how closely were you watching my back, Sam?"
"Oh no, I didn't mean it like that, not that I didn't like what I saw-- I mean, uh, shit, that sounded back. Look---" And as you stand there sputtering, you don't here the sound of shifting sand behind you, nor the hushed whispers or giggling. If Sarah notices anything come, she doesn't let you know, and as you start to find your voice again...
Swhish!
A pair of hands grasp the legs of your trunks, and whip them down to your ankles. Letting out a sharp yell, you clamp your hands to your crotch, Sarah still smirking, though it wasn't hard to tell where she was looking, even behind her sunglasses. As you scramble with one hand to get your shorts back up, you look over your shoulder to see pink hair and a cowboy hat; Allie and Candy, from the enemy team, standing behind you grinning wide.
"Heya shug," Allie says, "sorry again, but I didn't get a good look earlier, and didn't want to miss out!"
"Yeah," Candy says, "and I figured this makes us a little closer to even, huh?" She looks past you to Sarah, still reclining on the ground. "Hey, how's he look from the front?" Sarah ignores her, staring off down the beach. "C'mon," Candy continues, "don't leave us hanging!"
"Naw, it's fine," Allie says, "I reckon we'll get to see for ourselves soon enough. Lookin' forward to it, hon," she says to you with a wink, and with a tip of her hat, the two of them head back down the beach, laughing and chatting all the way. You watch them go, keeping a vice grip on your trunks until they're a good enough distance away. You turn back to Sarah, shifting awkwardly in your shorts considering what she just saw...
"So, uh... geez," you say, ending with what was almost a laugh, "I guess I won't bother you too much longer, I just wanted to make sure, that, uh..."
"If you're looking for a partner, I'm not sure I can commit 'til I see a little more of what you're made of. But as long as you don't go out of your way to get in mine, I'll keep an eye out for you," Sarah says, and her smirk widens into a grin, "Besides, if you don't stick around, I'm not going to get a better look down there, am I?"
"Oh, uh, great!" You say, with a blush, and you feel your trunks get just a little bit tighter, "I'll keep an eye out for you, too, then. It's a deal!"
"It's a deal," Sarah repeats simply. At the sudden sound of a whistle, she sighs, climbs to her feet, and gathers her towel, as Jenna steps back out onto the beach.
"Alright everyone!" Jenna announces through a megaphone, "If you'll follow me, I'd be happy to take you to where you'll be spending most of your downtime on the island!"
What are your cabins like?
