You find a cave

After a couple more miles, the forest rises on one side of the path. Some rock outcroppings are visible above the treetops in the distance. You head that way. As you climb the more rugged terrain, you find a small cave. Needing a place to stay tonight, you enter.

The light from outside illuminates a little way into the hole. With only minor stooping, you go down a short tunnel to a wide spot with a higher ceiling. This part of the cave seems fairly dry. Cinderella is clinging to you, partly from exhaustion, partly from fear. The ogre really scared her.

You make a torch from a branch, some tinder and pine sap. The two of you investigate the tunnel for ten yards farther into the hill before it gets too narrow to pass. You return to the 'room'.

"We'll stay here. We'll be out of the weather, and I don't think any animals live here." You spread a blanket you brought on the floor of the cave. You pull Cinderella down next to you on the thick fabric. You rummage through the knapsack and get bread and a couple apples. The two of you make short work of the food.

You lie down, holding Cinderella in your arms. She cuddles into you, and in minutes, you both are fast asleep.
