Chapter 21
by HistoricoPublius
You've done it. You've triumphed.
And life is good.
Once the She-Wolf of the Tiber is secured, the next few days seem to pass in a blur. She is, of course, turned over to the custody of the Roman Legion; they'll bring her to Rome securely, where she'll stand trial for her crimes against the Empire. You, meanwhile, are the toast of your region; several of the landowners invite you over for dinners, and for the next two days you're wrapped up in a more or less constant swirl of parties, fetes, and celebratory dinners in your honor. {if Adolphus Dead = True}Adolphus's **** hangs heavy over you despite the celebrations, though, and your enjoyment of the parties is accordingly muted.{else}You bring Adolphus, Albina, and Antonia along, naturally.{endif} {if She-Wolf Commendation = True} Centurion Filotus also summons you to the barracks to award you an official Commendation for civilian bravery for your part in both mobilizing the Legion to deal with the problem and in your part in the capture itself. It's a little irritating to have to listen to his pompous speech, knowing that he's half the reason you had to resort to such measures in the first place, but the commendation is a nice feather in your cap, at least.{endif}
At the end of the second day, you rest in your room at the villa, looking out the window over your moonlit estate. Safe, now, at last. You smile, and your thoughts stray to the people living here...
