I headed to the door hesitantly while the doorbell chimes in singsong again. "Am I ready for this?" I whispered to myself. I threw my hands aside, waving off the hesitation, the fear of rejection. I took a deep, calm, steadying breath and opened the door.

"Hi, I'm..." My breath caught in my throat, both from the sight of her and from the earthy aroma of her perfume.

"Yes, I know. She told me your name," she said, her burgundy painted lips parting as she smiled, revealing a row of smooth, pearly white, perfect teeth. She extended a hand, letting it rest in the air before me. "The name is Shanna," she said softly.

I looked her up and down quickly before taking her hand in mine. "Won't you come in?" I stammered.

"Gladly," she said, sashaying past me.

She was a beauty. There was no doubt about that, and it made me wonder why someone such as her was still alone in the world. She wore a simple, sleek black velvet evening dress, the thin straps encrusted with glittering stones. The sweeping line of her dress was scattered with sparkles as well, as if she wore the midnight sky on her body, muting her ample curves with the soft mantle of the night. At her left breast, she wore a simple circular brooch made of moonstone, its creamy pearl stark contrast against the black beneath it. Like the moon in the night sky, trailing stars down the hill and valley of her body that I drank in with my eyes.

She turned around slowly, her sky blue eyes scanning my living room. To my relief, she's didn't look disgusted by my spartan living manner. Instead, she smirked at some private joke. I hoped it wasn't about me.

She turned to me. "So, you were planning on a movie and dinner? Or dinner and a movie?" The corner of her lips turned up with a knowing smirk, and there was something in her eyes that I just couldn't place.
