           Mai realized that if she went to work 30 min. late that she had a good chance of being punished to do some remedial task for the rest of her tenure on the ship. Being on bad terms with her commander was not the best way to start out. But, if she said that she was unwell, a common event that occurred when people are first introduced to space travel, then her commander wouldn't punish her because of a nagging doubt in his mind. Whether her story was true or not, he would never know.

           Grabbing the Com badge off of her uniform, and doing her best to sound ill, Mai called her Commander. "Sir, this is Ensign Mai Saeki. I'm sorry, but I can't report to duty this morning. It seems that I'm still not accustomed to space travel yet." Despite her best to sound sick, her voice still sounded soft and sweet.

           "That's alright Ensign, you're not the only one. Ensign Sophia Sinclaire is in sick bay as we speak. I remember when I first came aboard the ship, I couldn't eat solid food for three days," the Commander said with a cackle of laughter. The humor went unnoticed by Mai as she rolled her eyes, hoping for the conversation to end quickly.

            "I'm not that bad, just a little nauseated," she replied, "if things get worse I'll go to sick bay." 

             "You make sure and do that Ensign. You're not missing anything important today so get well and we'll see you tomorrow." With that, the dull Commander hung up and Mai happily tossed her Com badge on her bed. Now she was free to do whatever she wanted to for the entire day.

               Grabbing her towel, Mai walked into her bathroom and turned on the hot water to fill her bath tub.
