Not sure what caused the vision Marcus would normally avoid it, but hearing the lumbering of the beast he decides it is best to take the risk of mysterious visions rather than obvious hungry beast. Marcus runs to the nearest tree and starts to climb up it grabbing at the dry looking vines rather than the more fresh looking ones. As he climbs up he manages to get half way up before the beast reaches the base and looks up to him growling before it lumbers around the base, hopping he would fall.
