Chapter 5

Is she interested?
Yes
“OK,” Kathy said with a smile. “I have to help my mom later, but we could take a walk. That would be nice.” I didn’t have any idea what might happen, but I figured we could always have a nice talk and take some photos. “Let’s go over to my house,” I said, “I’ll grab my camera and we can take off.”
I meant to ask Steph about her new friend, but her door was closed so I just grabbed my camera and we set off. Schoolhouse Road runs at a right angle to the road we live on, and the path we took ran roughly parallel to it, but deep enough in the woods it seemed like we had left civilization far behind after five minutes of walking. The forest was green and full of wildlife. We spotted deer, squirrels, songbirds and, in a clearing, a rabbit. It really was a pleasant walk, and Kathy and I chatted about this and that.
Kathy was the one who actually spotted the cemetery – actually a farm family’s burial plot, and we took photos of the headstones and each other. When I took her picture, squatting next to a weathered old headstone from the 1700s, she gave me a beautiful smile. I spent a lot of time “lining up” the shot – actually just looking at her, and the way her shorts let me see part of her panties, and I knew I’d be using that photo for more then a keepsake. Finally, we were ready to head back, but Kathy seemed **** to go. I asked her if there was something else she wanted to do, and she looked down, then looked me in the eye and asked, “Patty, is Stephanie, is she really a lesbian?”
I was shocked but decided honesty was the best policy. “Yes she is.” I said softly. “Always has been. I hope that doesn’t creep you out.” Kathy blushed like I’d never seen her before, and replied, “No, no … that’s not what I mean. Well, how do you feel about it?” “About her being a lesbian?” I asked. “She’s my sister – I love her. Besides, she won’t hit on you if you don’t give her a reason to think you want her to. I don’t think she’s the real aggressive type.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Kathy said quietly, her face even redder. “I meant how do you feel … about girls, I mean.” You could have cut the silence with a knife. I just looked at her, unsure how to reply, but I took a deep breath and said, “I’ve never kissed a girl or anything. But I want to. Why do you ask?”
Why does Kathy want to know?
