Yes, You Fight Back

Deciding that trying to spot the thing before it's already close enough to get you, you shift your focus to your other senses. You can't smell anything here, and the taste is about as useful as always, but you can still hear something. It's faint, the quick gurgling of fluid being pushes aside. Something is swimming to your left, slowly swirling around behind you. You hear bubbles swishing about from sudden motion as it starts its charge, and launch yourself to the right. Once it's within a few feet of you, you can feel the current its motion creates and combined with the sound you can tell pretty much exactly where it's swimming past you.

Ready for the second ****, you loosen your body and close your eyes, focusing your mind solely on the sounds and sensations around you. The thing is above you, lining itself up with your head. It stops. Again, you hear it start with a jolt, darting towards you with incredible speed. You launch yourself backwards, and as you feel the current stroking your torso, you grasp it with both hands. Whatever it is, it tries to wriggle out of your hands, but its body is brittle and weak. It takes just a single, fast separation to tear it right in two, its remains dissolving between your fingers. You feel something similar on your chest and arm as well, and touching them with your hands find that the "embellishments" you'd been left are vanishing. Apparently, without that creature around to finish the change, all of its progress just reverses itself. Convenient.

You feel surfaces at your hands and feet slowly closing in on you, getting closer and closer, until you're **** into a fetal position. Then all of the fluid around you drains away and the pod opens, dropping you once again in the vast cavern and leaving you quite thoroughly soaked in what looks to be no more than water but otherwise quite okay. The monsters that had been guarding this place before seem to have left, and now the entire massive room is empty except for the eggs lining its walls and the jail cell in the back.
