“God, Millie!” Tessa cried. “What’s wrong with you today? Are you fucking dumb? Or deaf, perhaps? Are you alright in the head?”

The **** had caused Tes to say some hurtful words to Millie earlier, and it now combined with Millie’s insulting doubt in her just now, the ignominy of losing the bet to Barry (of all people!) and having to ask for a second chance. Tes, seeking an avenue through which she could channel her rage, lashed out completely at Millie, saying things she wouldn’t normally say otherwise.

“I just—” Millie started.

“If he fucks someone else tonight, I’m officially on his website for a 3-part special! Is that too much for your tiny brain to comprehend? Fuck!” Tes stormed off, muttering to herself and in search of a drink.

Millie stared after her. She felt like hitting something. She was just asking a question! And earlier, she’d been looking out for Tessa, and the latter only replied with toxicity. Eventually, she settled for trying to drink her own anger away, downing shots in quick succession.

Tessa’s outburst, fortunately, had largely gone unnoticed thanks to the bombastic music blaring and people being preoccupied with their own conversations. Unfortunately, the one person who did notice was Barry himself, as he had turned back to see Tes’ follow-up reaction.
