Chapter 5

What do I say to that?
Why should I serve you, mortal?
I put on the nice booming voice we daemons are known for and replied. It had the desired effect of making him quake in his boots, but he quickly gathered himself and persisted.
"You will serve me Aristaeus."
It sounded as though he was trying to convince himself of it, just as much as he was trying to convince me. Then he said something I did not expect.
"You will serve me and when I am done with you, I will unbind your akasha."
Now that's more like it. If a summoner unbinds the akasha of his daemon, then it can roam free in the mortal world. To roam free in the mortal world is the greatest desire of all daemons, for it is in the mortal world that our akashas strengthen and we become more powerful. The mortal world is also far more interesting than our native aether.
That said, I did not like his tone of voice. Perhaps I could get a better deal out of him....
What do I demand?
