Who let the dogs out!

The dogs were suddenly pawing the common room floor and started growling toward the back of the room. The swarthy man holding their collars was having a tough time holding them back.

Janno was watching the scene with curiousity. It didn't cross his mind that he could have been the target. After all, he had hardly started his adventuring career. He hadn't had enough time to make any enemies.

Just then, the wizard suddenly turned and slapped the hands of the houndmaster who winced and released the collar ropes. The two large dogs lunged forward and started racing across the room, one of them zipping right past where Janno was sitting. A barmaid was in the way and she screamed as she danced out of the way and practically fell into a man's lap at the adjoining table.

At the same time, Janno noticed a few figures were busily making their way out of the back door of the common room. The fighter tensed a bit, his hand going to his sword, as he realized some serious disturbance was brewing.

Sure enough, the dogs bounded out after the fleeing figures through the door and the wizard, the houndmaster and the two soldiers quickly followed them.

Janno pondered what to do about this. Should he follow or remain where he was? This didn't concern him. Though he instantly disliked the arrogant wizard in the black swirling robes, he also sensed that the man wasn't someone to cross. At the same time, he was curious as to why the wizard was chasing those people.
