Another group aboard the freighters had gone silent. This was getting very, very rough as communications would jam and frazzle. The light infantry and Jettes were going in small groups, sweeping the freighters bit by bit. Along the comms would be position updates, the occasional exchange of gunfire, and obscenities from various squads that would go from room to room.

There would be a pause along one of the heavy gunship relays. "Deanna, bring us to about fifty meters over the freighter. Get lock on around the general area of it. Look for some of the mechanics in it." The gunships were rapid deployment VTOL fighters based on anti-grav repulsors festooned with weapons. Made for quick hit and run attacks with crews of three they could also deploy squads of jump troopers with a lot of squashing inside. They were however weakly armored if able to be hit. Given the scarcity of alien long range weapons, this was rarely an issue. Mobile infantry units required rapid deployment fire uspport on the battlefield, particularly against rapid clusters of Aliens.

The three gunships in the lance would all shoot up in the air to hover, spread out about twenty meters apiece as they got targeting solutions all over the area. Any detected alien coming out would have the fury of three gunships with tight lock targeting solutions that would disintegrate them without being a threat over to any nearby infantry.

Jinx, the lead pilot of one of them would grin sadistically "Now girls, remember for close range you can hit one of those bitch babies to within two meters if you cut it close from a friendly. Try not to spray and pray but remember the ground girls owe us all drinks when we save thier cute asses. And then they owe us their cute asses."
