Where to flee?

You have made it to the nearest port. From what you overhear, there are two primary destinations for the merchant ships leaving to the New World, New Orleans and Quebec. Looks like one of these will be your new home. With luck, you might be able to establish yourself and hopefully even send something back to your family.

New Orleans is a port colony on the Gulf of Mexico. It serves as an important though small trade crossroads between the Caribbean and the interior, using the Mississippi river. You aren't a trader, but you could probably find a use for your outdoorsman skills, and at the very least a small population leaves a lot of gaps for someone to slip into.

Quebec may be your best choice. The primary economic activity is fur-trapping, which is right in your skillset. But the weather can be brutally cold, and there are many Indians who may pose a threat, not to mention the nearby English colonies.
