Chapter 2
by Jimdeanbean
Blacksmith door or his quarters?
Wait, lets look at the society
Setting
Fantasy with a fairly advanced society. Cities and structures are developed. Castles are often built from stone in the Benpa (the kingdom of our protagonist) and other northern kingdoms due to tradition. Agriculture tech includes things like windmills that aid in grinding stone, grain silos, beast-drawn carts with advanced saddling and leather works. Warfare materials are finely worked swords, shields, crossbows, advanced ship building, advanced docking, basic machining and craftsmans tools.
Races
Common: Humans, elves, Halflings/hobbits
Common but seldom seen outside of occasional trade: Dwarves, gnomes
Rare: Orcs, dryads, tabaxi (humanoid felines), Witchkin (humans and elves who are exceptionally gifted at magic with no training, although the magic tends to be destructive, manipulative, or chaotic)
Monsters: a variety of monsters, not listing them all to allow for flexibility. Sightings in populated areas are rare, although some are known to roam the street of small villages and settlements.
Religion
Saints of the Sun (SoS)- the religion that is very accepted in the kingdoms near Benpa with a stronghold in Nantia. The SoS is skilled at inserting influential advisors in royal and noble circles. There is a big emphasis on guilt and punishment. Many of the faithful who have dedicated their lives to serving are good people but typically carry a lot of guilt. The SoS is accepting of humans and assimilationist elves. Nantia has done a good job of serving the church without allowing their bigotry to become too strong of an influence.
Masses of the Moonlight (MoM)- an underground religion that uses dark magic and is popular among witches. Accepts almost anyone but there is a security culture for preservations sake. Only uses punishment if a member attacks another member. However, local leadership attracts sadists because the rules are relatively loose and allows folks to exploit those below them.
Druids- druids often set up large encampments in wilderness that accept anyone. They sometimes advise royals and nobles who are more accepting, notably in the northly islands.
Other- places far from Banpa have other religions. The southern kingdoms have a less hierarchical religious system that is a mystery to subjects of Banpa royalty. Barbarians tend to worship the Hierarchy of the Hammer (HoH).
Religious Structures
SoS- Cathedrals, schools, administrative buildings, security towers, religious prisons in kingdoms they hold moderate influence in.
MoM- Temples in areas of influence. Sewers, hidden tunnels, witch shacks, old shrines, graveyards, elven ruins, and caves.
Druids- Shrines, groves, and caves.
Other- Shrines, groves, caves, and old god temples.
