Chapter 10
by Manbear
What is the name on the card?
Tyler Abrams - Head of Security
The expensive looking cards are made of paper thin black polymer embossed in gold:
Tyler Abrams - Head of Security, Aria General Hospital.
"Oh Shit!" Moans Samantha. She didn't usually swear but the implications of her assailant?s position are impossible to ignore. She just beat up the Head of Security. No wonder the nurse left her in such a hurry. Once again she looks through the small window in the door and sees the two nurses arguing about something. She checks the door handle optimistically but is not at all surprised to find it locked.
"I should have run." Samantha moans softly as she searched the room for some other way out of the small room. There are no other doors in the room but she immediately locates a small access panel under the sink. Her hands move on their own as she pulls the multi-tool from her pockets, before she even realizes what's happening her deft fingers have worked the screws loose on the access panel and she has pulled open the small sheet exposing a cramped crawlspace filled with all sorts of pipes, wires and cobwebs.
She would fit she decides confidently and places her feet over the lip of the small space.
"Wait!" Samantha puts a momentary stop to her skillful escape. How did she even know to look under the sink for this panel not to mention the ease with which she freed the screws and her confidence in crawling into the tiny dark crawlspace? "I'm not Pocahontas." Samantha realizes with a flash of insight, "I'm Rhiain."
She still hesitates before she crawls into the tiny space. Not because she fears the darkness or doubts Rhiain's ability to slip away through the narrow passage. It was a deeper issue, Samantha was not Rhiain. She did not have to live her life as Rhiain would. Wasn't it possible that the nurse meant what she said and that she was ensuring that the right people were called so her attack would not be swept under the carpet?
Samantha can feel the Rhiain's panic growing at her hesitation. The longer she waits the less likely the odds of a successful escape.
Does she finish her escape, or trust the nurses to do the right thing?
