Chapter 2
by Orange man
Where to next, captain?
To the void and world beyond.
Pitch black darkness. An abyss of infinite gloom. A box of shadows... It is what surrounds you. It's all you can see since you got here somehow.
You can never get used to it. Particularly this variety – endless and void of sound. This is a fortunately unfortunate kind of situation – you had assumed your soul was on a first class trip to Hell when you died. You're surprised when you woke up here. It's no heaven but it's certainly bearable than the lake of fire. Still, If this is what you have to look forward to for all of eternity – you will need to come up with means to commit suicide because existence in this vacuum would be a chore and indubitably boring.
As if reading your thoughts, the void starts to quail and discompose rather violently. The dark mass around you begins to split into tiny specks of stars. No, not stars, it's... it's getting bigger, and bigger, until your whole perception is swallowed up in a blanket of light.
Through a rip in the barrier of space and time, the void spits you out like puke. You rocket toward the ground like a missile. You shut your eyes and scream, a second **** is sure to happen if you crash. However you are more than surprised when you inexplicably land on your feet.
You are standing on a plain of grass, wet with the morning dew. The sun seems more yellow than you remember, and the leaves on the tall trees around you are unlike any you have seen before. It feels you've been dead for a lifetime. The color fills you with energy.
One thing is certain, you're definitely not in Kansas anymore.
This place is different. Just how different eludes you. The sky, the air... It's strange. You can feel it to the root of your skin. Speaking of skin and feeling, It's freakin' cold, and you begin to shiver. That's when you realize you aren't wearing any clothes. Wait, no clothes! The nerve of that void! It leaves you in the middle of nowhere with nothing to cover your dignity and your tinkler. You turn back to see a broad range of trees with an enormous mountain looming over.
You're seriously in the middle of nowhere.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuckit!
Nevertheless, you have to get a move on, the sun is turning orange which means dusk will arrive soon and Night tends to be a lot chillier. Out here, in the open, you're easy picking for frostbites or crepuscular beasts, whichever comes first.
You're mulling where to start when a loud crunch gets your attention. Few paces away, you see the backs of three human shaped creatures huddled together. A smile blooms on your face at the sight of your fellow man. Maybe they can help you. As you trek closer, you see that they are humans alright, but obscenely so. They are gray, grotesquely thin and missing body parts. It makes your smile change to nauseous disgust. The trio are wearing the ragged remains of what once was a tunic. They make wet slurping and groaning sounds as they eat from something lying on the ground. Your sense, honed from watching countless horror movies tells you one thing.
Zombies!
You gasp and jerk back. One of them looks up at you. His mouth is bright red with fresh blood, and He bares decayed sharp teeth at you and growls. Suddenly, he jumps to his feet and rush at you with a speed that belies his gangly frame.
It's clear that fleeing is no option.
You are not sure what possesses you to do it but you're thankful it did. It happened as soon as the zombie gets within striking distance, you lash out with a brutal uppercut that catch him at the jaw. You feel the jolt numb your hand but the satisfaction of seeing the zombie crumble is there. You feel like Ash Williams but without clothes or chainsaw.
Seeing their fallen brethren, the other two abandon their meal and clamber to their feet. Oh no! One zombie you can take, probably. But two, eh... make that three, since the one you just punched got back onto his feet and looking pissed off. Three zombies is a party you want no invite to. They draw closer, filling your space with the coppery scent of blood and the putrid stench of the undead.
You need a miracle to get out of this one.
What kind of miracle?
