Chapter 4
Which way did Amber go?
To her neighbor on the left, Old Man Abernathy
Looking around, Amber recognized that she’d climbed into Mr. Abernathy’s yard. Not much to look at all things considered. A lotta junk, an old grill, some tools. The only thing of note to be found were Mr. Abernathy’s two prides and joys: Benjamin and Gregory, his two pet Rottweilers.
“Ben. Greg.” Amber said in mock greeting as she continued to catch her breath. The two dogs eyed her suspiciously. A very low growl could be heard as they approached Amber. “Oh quit it you two, you know me. After all, who fed you when Ol’ Abe was having kidney surgery?”
Both Benjamin and Gregory began growling a little louder.
“Ok so maybe I forgot. But I definitely fed you when he had heart surgery.”
Two sets of teeth were bared as the dogs moved closer.
“No? Dammit I asked Molly to cover for me didn’t I.” Amber said. The dogs now had Amber backed fully against the fence. “It dawns on me that you two might not like me.”
Running out of options, Amber glanced at the gate by the side of the house, and considered just making a break for it. Though outrunning two Rottweilers didn’t seem very likely. Maybe if she had something she could throw to distract them. There didn’t seem to be much close by to throw, but something Amber had on her person might work.
Does Amber run, or try to distract the dogs?
