Chapter 9 by brambank brambank

Where should Leanne go?

This floor

Leanne figured this floor was as good as any other so she decided to stay where she was. She looked around the corridor. Several of the group were entering the various rooms spread down the hallway. She was thinking about joining one of them when she spotted the first clown she'd seen. His mask was much creepier than the others and something about his demeanour seemed to separate him from the rest of the group. Without any other clear options Leanne decided to go speak to him.

"Um, hi," she began with a friendly smile. The clown barely responded. His gaze flicked briefly in her direction before returning his attention back to the other clowns. "So I, um, saw you earlier. Standing here. I was a little freaked out, but I guess it's only a costume." The young woman waited patiently for a response but there was only silence. "So, are you all together?"

Suddenly the creepy clown grabbed Leanne's arm roughly. She wasn't sure if he'd had enough of her incessant chatter or had other plans in mind, but he began dragging her away towards a nearby door.

"Hey! Stop!" she yelled. But her pleas fell on deaf ears as she was led unwillingly towards the room. The clown was surprisingly strong and his grip on her arm firm. She tried to pull back but it was no use. As they reached the room the door was flung open and Leanne tossed inside like a small child. Before she could protest any further the door was slammed in her face and she heard the turning of a key as it was locked.

In a panic Leanne frantically tugged on the handle but it was no use. The door was stuck fast and wouldn't move an inch. She began banging on the wooden frame. Yelling to be released.

"Hey! Let me out of here!" But there was no reaction from outside. Seeing escape was impossible at this time and with her throat hurting from the yelling Leanne relaxed a little and inspected her new surroundings. She appeared to in some kind of cupboard. The room was small with some storage shelves and an array of boxes. Just as she was wondering if there was anything she could use to aid her exit she heard a fearful scream from outside.

Leanne froze in position, listening carefully. Had she imagined it? There was only silence. And then it happened again, this time closer. Possibly from the next room. Leanne had no idea what was going on out there, but this definitely wasn't the time to be trapped in a cupboard.

She looked again at her surroundings. There had to be something she could use to escape. Then again, maybe she was safer in there than in the middle of whatever was happening out there.

What should Leanne do?
