Chapter 4 by Bookmite Bookmite

Something has to break the ice eventually right?

They notice the pizza

As James was busy looking over their bodies, it seems the smaller one notices the box of pizza. One of her hands reaches out, which he is now noticing are more human than animal-like, but is quickly caught by the larger of the two. Both of them are still, their eyes darting from you to the pizza, but not daring to come any closer.

Well, James thought, I did just get them out of a crate, no telling how long they were even in there for, and the little one... He took a closer look at the two. He knew the smaller one was much thinner, but now that he took the time to notice, he could see a couple ribs. Oh she didn't seem anorexic kind of thin, but certainly malnourished. In fact, the larger one had dark lines under her eyes. There was clearly something wrong here.

There's absolutely no other choice here. No matter how surprising or unusual this situation is, he couldn't possibly let things stand as they were. That decided, he reached for the box of pizza. He felt a little bad, strangely enough. Oh sure, it was natural to feel bad for the two obviously hungry canines. He felt bad because he was only offering them cold, leftover pizza. With everything else going on, what an odd thing to feel bad about.

Still, he kept a close eye on the two, looking them directly in the eyes as he slowly opened the box...

What happens when you offer a hungry animal food?
