Chapter 30
But what happens between Lauren and Aaron?
They have hot cousin sex of course, what else do hot cousins do in a tent after the world ends?
Aaron
Breaking into a camping store was not something Aaron had expected to do that morning. He still wasn't convinced it was a good idea, but he didn't have a better one. Fortunately, the employees had left in a hurry, and the door was unlocked and the security system unarmed. Sure, they'd be on camera, but Aaron could easily buy his way out of that if things returned normal.
"Okay," Richard stopped outside the door. "Lauren, get some hiking boots that fit and several pairs of good boot socks. Then get yourself a coat, a two-piece with a separate rain shell and thermal layer. Once you have that come back out here."
He turned to Aaron, "You're getting the food, batteries, and more water filters. If there's anything else you know we need, get it. I'm going to get more camp fuel, more ammo, and more guns. Fast is the key here. Let's go."
Aaron didn't waste time in the store. He headed straight for the food section and started filling the bag that he'd grabbed at the front of the store. Most of the food he grabbed was dehydrated since that's mostly what they had. None of it tasted good, but it provided a lot of calories and was light. One final stop was for some moleskin, extra bandages, and disinfectant. They were going to have blisters, especially Lauren.
On his way out, he grabbed a couple more water bottles, a box of iodine, a few head lantern flashlights, and every battery they had. It would have to do. Richard was already outside stuffing his own and Aaron's bags with the heaviest things and moving light stuff to the bag he had bought for Joslynn. Lauren joined them a few minutes later with a new coat, hat, and boots on, her old soft boots in her hand.
"What do I do with these?" She asked.
"Leave 'em," Richard said. "Let's get packs on."
Aaron hoisted Lauren's pack for her, and her dad helped adjust the straps. They pulled on their own packs.
"Call your mom if you can," Richard told Aaron. "Cell towers are likely flooded, but the battery won't last forever."
Aaron tried calling but couldn't get through. He sent a text and hoped it would reach her.
"Not getting through," he muttered.
"Hopefully, she made it to the Cabin then," Richard said gloomily. "Our four-hour drive to Silver Lake just became a who-knows-how-many-days hike."
Lauren groaned.
Aaron looked at the road. "We're going to want to avoid towns as much as possible too? If there's a lockdown, if we go anywhere that there's like to be law enforcement…" he trailed off.
"I'm a lot less worried about cops than I am about whatever your mom's 'friends' told her about. People have been disappearing, or haven't you noticed from that ivory tower of yours?"
Aaron bit his tongue. Richard had always held his mother's wealth against him, but he wasn't going to get into it right now. "So it's going to take even longer," he sighed.
"From memory," Richard said, "We'll need to cross the Bear Mountain bridge. Otherwise, we'll have to walk right past West Point and through a bunch of towns. We'll have to go around Poughkeepsie, but if we can do that, we're pretty clear until we cross back over the Kingston-Rhinecliff bridge."
"That still means going through towns to cross bridges," Aaron pointed out. What do we do if the bridges are unpassable?"
Richard groaned, "You're right. We should try to minimize crossing bridges, which means we're going to have to do a lot of cutting across country to avoid people."
"He wasn't joking about cutting across country," Lauren grumbled to Aaron as they followed Richard.
"No," Aaron agreed. He considered himself an avid hiker and backpacker, but Richard was in much better shape than he was, and Richard set their rigorous pace.
"What is it you're so scared of?"
"I don't know," he admitted.
Richard stopped, and they caught up to him.
"Let's find a place to stop for the night. It's going to be dark soon. Someplace away from the road."
They made their way up and away from the road until they found a small flat meadow.
Richard went about pitching his tent at once, leaving Aaron to help Lauren out of her backpack by himself. "Sit down first, then unbuckle these," he pointed to the two plastic buckles.
"These things were not made with boobs in mind," Lauren grumbled.
Aaron frowned sympathetically. 'Joslynn had it worse and never complained.' "Let's get the tent set up, then we can figure out food."
He guided her patiently through each step of the tent, from putting down a plastic tarp, to rolling out the body, assembling the poles, pushing the body up, and finally unfolding and attaching the rain fly. Each time she made a mistake, he patiently corrected her and let her try again until she got it right.
'I had intended this to be for me and Joslynn,' he thought wistfully about the boxes still in his coat pocket. 'I don't even know if I'll ever see her again.'
"Are you thinking about Joslynn?" Lauren asked. She'd always been so good at reading him.
"Yes."
She said nothing, and he knew that she was actually happy that Joslynn was gone. He wasn't going to get into that right now. Maybe later.
"Let's eat," Richard called them over to the small backpacking stove, saving Aaron from the awkwardness. In the gathering dusk, the white-blue flame of the isobutane stove cast odd shadows. The dehydrated chicken noodle soup Richard had made for them was hot and actually didn't taste too bad. Though it wasn't as filling as Aaron would have liked.
Lauren took longer to eat hers. but Richard was already done when Aaron finished his. When Lauren was done, he took all of their mess kits and washed them out, leaving Lauren and her father alone. 'Just what the hell are we running from?'
He returned to find Lauren and Richard sitting in silence.
"Should we turn in and get up early?" He asked.
Richard nodded, and they climbed into tents.
He lay next to Lauren, each in their own sleeping bag, back to back.
'Why did Uncle Richard let us sleep in the same tent? Because he knew Lauren wouldn't sleep next to him, and he was worried something would happen to her? That's the only thing that makes sense.' Aaron wondered. Eventually, he drifted off to a light and dreamless sleep.
They were up early the next morning. Breakfast we a quick and cold affair. Tents and backpacks were repacked in near silence, broken only by Aaron helping Lauren.
Apart from a few long detours to avoid towns and people, they basically just followed the highway north. The day progressed slowly. They stopped for breaks more often than Richard liked, but Lauren could simply not keep his pace, even with her much lighter load.
They were mostly quiet, and the day passed by slowly. The evening was much the same as the one before. They found a place to camp, ate dinner, and settled into an awkward sleeping arrangement.
The third day could have easily been a repeat of the second day.
The fourth day changed everything. They had gotten near enough to a town to get cell service. By chance, that was the day the world learned of the Infected.
"The government is calling them 'Infected'," the reporter said. "They have been spotted in most major cities around the country. We are being assured that the government is doing everything it can to protect us. The President has already called up the army and national guard." They watched the video of things running down the road and attacking people, trying to fuck them. The feed cut to a pre-recorded message from the President, urging people to stay in their homes and not try to flee.
"Fucking hell," Richard swore softly.
"Yeah," Aaron agreed.
"We need to keep going," Richard ordered. "We need to keep away from anyone or anything that looks remotely human."
Aaron stopped talking then. That night would live on in his memory forever, but he wasn't about to tell Joslynn about it. He stole a quick glance at Lauren. Her face was flushed red, and he was sure she was thinking about it. He couldn't stop himself, even if he didn't say it out loud.
The rest of that day was a quiet affair. They hiked hard and avoided any populated area. When they saw people, they readied their weapons and give a wide berth. No one was sure who they could trust. The images they'd seen on the phone were still fresh in their minds.
Aaron had tried to call his mom again but hadn't been able to reach her.
When they stopped for the night, they found an even more secluded place than before.
They sat around the small stove, waiting for the soup to heat up in silence. When it was ready, the stove was put away, and they ate in silence. Lauren and Aaron pitched their tent faster than before, having done it a few times now, and settled in for the night.
They both lay there, on their backs, staring up at the roof of the tent.
Lauren broke the silence that had hung over them the whole day. "What the hell is going to happen?"
"I don't know," Aaron replied distantly. The words his mother had repeated to him hung in his mind 'This is the End'.
"Are we going to end up like that?"
"Fuck, I hope not."
"Aaron, are we going to make it?"
He reached over and took her hand. "I don't know, Lauren. I don't know much anymore. I won't lie to you. I love Joslynn." He took a deep breath, "I also still love you. I'm sure you don't like hearing that I love you both in the same sentence, but I don't want to lie to you."
"I love you too," she said. "I wish you wouldn't talk about her though."
"I… I understand why you feel that way," he said. 'Fuck, I sound like Joslynn right now.' "I do love her, though, and I hope I can see her again."
"You could do better," Lauren teased. "I've been holding out hope you'd realize that we were better than you two ever were."
Aaron looked at her. He saw the lust in her eyes and the fear. This was what the end of the world was doing, breaking down the rules that had held society together. He knew what Lauren wanted, and a part of him wanted it too. Wanted her. He was still loyal to Joslynn, though, wasn't he? She wouldn't break that loyalty to him, would she? He's be opened to a threesome with another woman, maybe, but he wouldn't share her with another man.
An image of Lauren and Joslynn together waiting for him in bed flashed through him. He pushed it away; it was an unhelpful fantasy at best.
His train of thought was broken by Lauren's lips pressing against his own. "Don't think any more about her; think about me. Think about what you have, not what you lost."
Aaron tried to push her back softly, but she wasn't easily dissuaded, and he gave in. 'I'll figure something out with Joslynn if we ever find her,' he thought.
Lauren's lips were as wonderful as he remembered. He was as greedy to keep getting more of them as she was for more of him. They both struggled out of their sleeping bags, so their bodies could touch. Trembling fingers worked fasteners, and clothes were left behind as hands explored. His hands slid over her hips, her waist, her round butt, her big breasts—not as big as a Joslynn's, but close—her smooth back.
Her hands worked over his muscles with the same hunger until they slipped around his cock. She gently massaged him, rubbing her fingers softly along the sensitive underside. Then she rolled on her back, pulling him with her.
"I'm yours, take me," she breathed.
He didn't hesitate. He slid into her. He hadn't had sex since Joslynn had gone to the lab and not come back, and Lauren felt heavenly. She gasped, clearly surprised by his forwardness. He began to slowly work his way in and out of her. Her hand went down to her own clit, slowly working it between her fingers.
He kissed her neck and throat, letting his lips work his way down her while keeping his hips engaged. His lips found their way to her ample breasts. He could feel his orgasm building. "I'm close," he whispered.
The hand on her clit sped up. She bit her lip slightly to stifle a moan. "Me too. Let's cum together."
Aaron pushed himself to hold back as long as he could, but her body, her face, her pussy wrapped around him, and most of all Lauren herself sent him hurtling over the edge. The pressure at the base of his balls grew into a fire, then burst in wave after wave of cum and pleasure. Lauren bit his lip as her hand went into overdrive. Her hips bucked slightly as her own orgasm washed over her.
She released him and sighed. "Fuck, that was great."
"Yeah," he groaned, rolling off over her and back onto his own sleeping bag. 'Joslynn, please understand,' he thought as he drifted off to sleep.
What is Joslynn going to do about her fiancé and his cousin, and their feelings?
