The ride home

Mike's vehicle almost made everything that had just happened worth it. Instead of public transportation, you found yourself in the passenger seat of a red convertible. It was far nicer than anything your parents owned and you were pretty sure it cost more than their house.

As you pulled out of the parking lot, he reached over and placed his hand atop yours in a gesture that seemed more like that of a lover than a bully.

"I hope I wasn't too mean back there," he said.

You didn't know how to respond.
