Chapter 4 by crono04 crono04

The choice itself

The first angel

John: Hm. It seems like they're all prime candidates, but i believe the first one will do the best job without being...overly-protective.

The third angel scowls, knowing you mean her. The other two hang their heads, one in disappointment in not being picked the other in disappointment with herself. The angel you chose steps forward.

1st Angel: A wise decision. You won't regret it.

Israfel: Alright, then. John, take a while to get to know your angel. That is, after all, the purpose of this project. The rest of you, come with me, please.

The three non-chosen angels follow Israfel out of the room, which suddenly becomes an outdoor cafe in what appears to be an expansive garden, full of trees in the middle of spring, green fields and blue skies. The moon, and not the sun, provides lighting, but it is as bright as daytime. The angel takes a seat across from you at a small round table. The seat is, as one would assume, comfortable beyond all Earthen seats.

John: As you are my choice, may i ask you your name?

Angel: Yes, but i can only give you the name i had in my mortal life. My true name is not to be known by anybody unless they have shown themselves worthy of it and frankly, i just met you. My name is Doe.

John: Doe...it's pretty.

Doe: Thank you. Now, since we are supposed to be meeting each other, tell me about yourself.

John: Well...i'm a new soul, so i don't really know anything about myself. Other than i need a guardian angel, of course.

Doe misses that that was a joke, and takes a cigarette from her pocket.

Doe: Do you mind if i smoke?

John: I don't know. I've never seen anyone do it.

Doe: Right...

She takes one out of the pack and lights it. The smell seems a bit strange, but not entirely unpleasant.

Doe: So, any idea what kinda thing you'll need guarded from?

John: Not really. I guess the normal stuff.

Now what?
