The enchanter's traps

You walk boldly through the ruined hallways of the temple with Nemiri at your side. You don't sheath your sword, realising that you might need it if this monster Lyria spoke of makes an appearance, and Nemiri keeps an arrow on her bowstring at all times.

Although you can't be entirely sure where the enchanter will have secreted himself, you guess (from experience) that it will be in the dankest, darkest, deepest room in the whole place. With this in mind, from the main entrance hall you head straight on down the passageway opposite you, and then into a labyrinth of corridors, lighting a torch as you go. These lead you ever downwards, down spiralling flights of stairs and deeper and deeper into the earth, and you can't help but be thankful for Nemiri's presence.

But still you can't shake the feeling that you're being watched- that someone's eyes are riveted, fixedly, on your back. Whenever you turn to look over your shoulder, though, there's nobody and nothing to be seen. After a while you stop trying to look, thinking that you must just be paranoid.

Suddenly something rears up ahead of you: a huge lion like creature with gaping fangs and gleaming yellow eyes. Nemiri shrieks and lets an arrow fly at the thing- only for the shot to pass through it like it weren't even there. You frown; the lion stands still, roaring at you, but not moving at all. You take a step closer, and still it doesn't move, and then you realise that it's just an illusion raised by the enchanter.

You laugh and explain to Nemiri. "It's not real at all- it's just an illusion. Look!" You step forward and through the lion to show her that it can't harm her.

But just then there's a great rumble- and you realise that in stepping through the illusion, you've set of one of the enchanter's traps. There's no time to react; but someone hits you square in the chest and knocks you backwards as the roof caves in, a great tumble of rubble that would have buried you alive if you'd been standing beneath it.

The torch went out when you were knocked to the ground, and now you're in pitch black darkness. "Nemiri?" you call out.

"John!" comes the muffled reply. "Are you alright!"

"I'm fine!" you call back, but realise at the same time that she's still on the other side of the wall of rubble... So who pushed you out of the way and to safety? "Nemiri, go back to the entrance of the temple! I'll find another way out and rejoin you there!"

"Alright! Be safe! she calls back, then you hear her footsteps retreating.

You take a cautious step and your foot nudges the torch on the floor. You light it, eager to see who saved you. By the flickering light of the flames, you look down at her form and gape. Finally you gather your wits together enough to say her name.

"Doe!?!?"
