Chapter 4

What effects does it have?
The effects are far beyond expectations.
Instantly your heart is racing. Wow! Wow! This is some stimulant! The lights above you brighten to dazzling levels making you squeeze your eyes shut, and then your blood is roaring and pounding in your ears. You catch some alarmed cries from the three behind the glass and you hear alarms going off, but then you can't hear anything over the thunder of your pulse. You can FEEL your heart in your chest, slamming away like a jackhammer. They thought this strain wouldn't be all that effective? You feel great! Too good! Like your sense are being pushed too far, too fast. You smell the chemicals that they used to disinfect the lab, and feel like you could work out the exact chemical compound by the scent alone. But you're dizzy, so dizzy, like you don't know which way is up anymore and you're falling... You clench your fists and feel like you could punch through a wall.
And then it starts hurting.
Pain shoots through every limb, and then worst of all it clutches your spine and holds on tight. You must be flopping like a fish, you think as your mind detaches, but you're beyond doing anything at all except lying there and enduring it. You forget where you are, what's causing this pain, this fire that's burning every part of you - hell you forget your own name as this agony tears you apart.
Of course, you black out.
You wake up... and nothing's hurting at all. You don't remember everything straight away, but it comes rushing back in seconds, and you're not at all surprised when you open your eyes and the lab comes into focus around you. And you feel GREAT. Tom and Rick are still there, you must've been out only for a few seconds - that agony just something that tore through you and went on its way.
But they look... almost scared.
"Holly?" Jeez! They're backed up against the wall! You really must've been thrashing about there! And they look terrified! It's fine! You're good! You start to tell them but your mouth is a bit dry so you work up some saliva first. "Holly, are you... can you hear us?"
"I can hear you! It's cool, I'm... I'm ok!" You say, but straight away you notice that there's something different about your voice. And as you, without thinking, start to get up off the bed things feel even stranger still. Oh my God... what did that **** do to you?
How have you changed?
