Emma scooted off the bed and tucked her hand under the mattress. She felt around until her fingers closed around the hard handle of the riding crop.

"What are you doing?" Jenny asked, looking back to her cousin.

"What you secretly want someone to do." Emma teased, then yanked the covers off of Jenny. The startled teen flinched. Emma smacked the girl's bare bottom with the tip of the riding crop.

"Roll onto your stomach." Emma said.

Jenny looked at the blonde, an angry shimmer in her eyes reflected by the storm. The look didn't last long, as Emma whipped the girl's behind again.

"Emma!" Jenny squealed, but she rolled over.

Lightning flashed again, making Maude seem evil and supernatural. Emma prepared herself for the worst, deciding to defend herself with the riding crop if need be.

Maude didn't scream though. She calmly held out a hand and waited. Emma hesitated then held out to riding crop to her stern aunt. She closed her eyes and steeled her nerve, getting ready to run if she had to. Poor Jenny would be on her own.

Maude frowned and looked at Jenny. The matronly woman shook her head and said, "I had been wondering where this had disappeared to."

She waited a moment, giving both girls a look of disapproval, then turned and left.

Emma and Jenny just stared at each other. "That's it?" Emma finally asked.

"She's probably looking for a bigger weapon. You should go before she changes her mind." Jenny said.

Emma wasn't sure that Jenny was joking. She gave her cousin an apologetic smile, then left the room. She made haste to Jake's room, closing the door behind her. When Maude didn't come barging in, Emma thanked the heavens and sat on the bed. It took several more minutes before she let her guard down, but it didn't seem like Maude would be after her anytime soon.
