The North

Despite your dislike of the Puritans (shared by a good many Englishmen), you think the South sounds a bit too wild for your tastes.

Walking with firm purpose (you have no money to waste on such luxuries as carriages) towards the dock, you arrive at the port within an hour. You hastily begin running up to as many ships as you can find, asking where they are going and the price of passage. To your dismay, they are all either going somewhere else, or charging too much.

Just as you feel ready to give up, something catches your eye. You see a small passenger boat, and a certain black outfit you've seen before. You think it was a political cartoon of some kind, but you aren't sure. Running up behind the man, you start to introduce yourself. "Hello sir, may I ask if you happen to be going to Massachusetts?" The man turns slowly to face you, face like a mask of iron. Oh no, now you remember. This man is a Puritan.

He breathes deeply before answering, exhaling slowly. "We may be. Who are you?" You're nervous now, even though you stand at least a head taller than him (though his hat helps him to compensate). Is it even worth dealing with people like this. "W-well, you see, good sir, my old employer has had to let many a man go, and as such I am out of work. I w-would like to start afresh in the colonies. I'm willing to pay for passage!" you almost shout in his face, holding a small sack of coins out. The man eyes you up and down slowly, suspiciously. After examining you for almost a full minute, he speaks."Well, times are changing. I can't begrudge a man willing to work. Very well, you may come aboard, just give some pay for room and board." He pushes your hand back as you anxiously try to press the bag toward him. "Do not insult me so, I am not a financier. Only a fraction of that will be required." Gratefully, you scoop out some money from the bag and drop the coins in his hand. Satisfied, he turns and walks aboard without saying more.

The ship seems to be a Puritan colony ship, one of many you quickly gather. You place your small set of belongings in with your berth and settle in for the time being.
