The New Farm In Town

"The farm silly!" Mika laughs. You put your finger on your chin and try to think what she could possibly be talking about. Why would you be visiting a farm? Maybe you'd heard something about it recently. If it weren't for the fact that you vaguely recall people mentioning a farm a lot lately, you'd think she was playing a joke on you. Oh, if only you could remember.

"Why are we visting a farm?" You finally ask, ready for the teasing you just earned. Instead she just starts telling you about the place. No one knows too much about what goes on there, but they just moved into town a year ago, and they're already the most profitable business for miles.

Quietly you wonder how that works. Aren't, like, banks and stuff supposed to be where all the money is?

Mika continues, explaining that Sensei decided to go on a field trip there after the people at the farm told Sensei that they wanted to show the next generation all the big changes going on in agriculture today. Mika laughed about all the pompous nonsense words all the farm people got Sensei to say about the place. You, meanwhile, had already tuned out, since playing a game of "spot the farm animal" was much more fun.

The bus kept going until they reached the edge of the place in question. It was a big black steel building, that stretched out for what seemed to you to look like miles. It took up so much of the property, you wondered where the cows grazed.

"Everyone, off the bus. Let's meet the tour instructor!" Mayumi Sensei calls out. Slowly, you shuffle along with all of the other students on the rough pavement of the road below. The entire class stand around awkwardly, most with hands in their pockets. A few of the most popular kids openly pay no attention to their surroundings, instead far too deep in gossip. You're too busy kicking a pebble to notice when a big fat man with a short beard walks over to the group with a jovial smile.

"Hello, well if it isn't a surprise!" The man booms "A bunch of young up-and-comers wanting to learn about my business? I'm honored you took time out of your day to come down."
