The Naughty Pukwudgie

The Naughty Pukwudgie was Jiyuu's first international sexpoitation comedy. It was released in July of 2020 and immediately became an international success.

For this project, Jiyuu asked Japanese mangaka Toshiki Yui to write the film's basic storyline, and American scripter Adam Herz to write the screenplay adaptation. The director's chair was for US filmmaker Jake Kasdan.

The film's plot line, in the most classic sexploitation tradition, was very basic: several vacationers arrive to a campsite in New Jersey and soon discover that the area is inhabited by a naughty pukwudgie (mythological creatures from the Lenape and Wampanoag folklore, known for having magical powers and a tendency to play nasty tricks on humans, especially those invading their habitat or harming plants or animals). It plays in a similar way to many slasher flicks, but with the particularity that this "monster" does not kill her victims; instead, she prefers to make them suffer, normally by stripping and humiliating them.

The naughty pukwudgie (named Pudgy and played by actress and former pornstar Bridget Powers) quickly became a fan-favorite all over the world, spawning a whole series of movies.

Jake Kasdan declared, a couple of decades later:

"Bridget's performance was one of the key factors in the film's success, and can be considered the main responsible for the existence of the subsequent sequels. She made Pudgy much funnier than the writers or I had imagined her to be. In the first movie, Pudgy was conceived basically as a walking plot device to strip the other actresses, but she became the audience's favorite character and focus of the sequels. A few months after the release of The Naughty Pukwudgie, we saw people wearing Pudgy t-shirts and uploading videos of themselves doing the Pukwudgie Dance and couldn't believe it. We thought that the film's main attractive would be seeing her victims get stripped, but it was Pudgy herself that immediately captivated audiences around the planet.

<<Seen with perspective, Pudgy contributed a lot to the end of neo-puritanism: after the release of the first film of the series, the internet was immediately packed with fans expressing their love for the movie, and specially for Pudgy as a character. There were many haters as well, but Pudgy made millions of fans come out of the closet and declare their love for sexploitation flicks. It was then when they realized that they were actually many more than the cancel culture inquisitors, and this fact motivated them to raise their voices and not let a small percentage of people dictate the rules of what could and could not be done in cinema. I like to think that I had an important role in the decline and end of neo-puritanism along the 2020s, but, to be completely honest, none of that would have happened without Bridget's surprisingly hilarious performance as Pudgy".
