The Marines

You had always dreamed of going to far away places. Plus with the Marines you got extra badass points because the navy’s whole reaction to any time there was fight on land was simple Send in the Marines! As made your way to recruiter station you were greeted by an older gentleman who appeared to be 30 maybe older. He gestured you to sit before closing the door to his office and sitting down himself.

“My name is Sergeant James. How can I help you today son?” The man said in a calm tone

“Well you see sir I was hoping to join the Marines after I graduate from High School” you replied.

The man was quiet before he replied “Have you done ROTC yet young man?” You nodded your head in reply you had done ROTC earlier into your senior year but dropped it abruptly after struggling with Physics classes and needing more time.

After sharing that with him the older gentleman took out a document and placed it out in front of you it was military service contract. “Before you sign I need to see some ID first” you nodded before handing over your state ID. He looked carefully for any signs of it being counterfeit but after seeing it was real handed it back to you before pushing the paper a little closer to you and clicking a pen for you.

“Since you dropped out of ROTC earlier in the year technically you wouldn’t qualify for any of the programs to be in the Marines as an officer but you can still enlist instead it will be grunt work for the first years and you will be subject to a year long wait just for boot camp but it is possible. However you should consider taking the new ASFAT test since we have new specialist program where ROTC dropouts can start out as a specialist instead of as a private another option is during the summer you could make up the ROTC training in the summer. Think on this before you sign the document son as this will affect a lot of things in your career.”

As you finished signing you came upon the box marked enlisted, officer or specialist course which was what Sergeant James was talking about. Seeing as you wanted to be more than your everyday garden variety grunts but not lead the men you decided to specialize instead marking the box specialist before handing in the document to Sergeant James only to see him place a 50 page stack of documents on the desk instead. “I am also going to need you sign this since your here alone with out a guardian present you know for legal reasons along with some more details as well Sergeant James said with a small grin”

You sighed deeply before readying your hand for some more writing it was going to be a long day for you that was sure.

After two long hours signing papers left and right you walked home it was 3:00pm the your Saturday halfway gone and you were tired. You open your apartment door and entered quietly before closing the door and turning around.
