Chapter 56 by Faustus Faustus

The Long And Arduous Journey

By the time Emma, and her very unhelpful cousin, made it to the house, Emma regretted letting the boys leave. Getting busted by her aunt or uncle for having three drunk boys help carry Jenny to her room would have been preferable to having to do this by herself.

Jenny was able to stand, and that was about it. The occasional giggle, or burp, found their way out of the **** teen, but that was about it.

At least she isn't singing, talking loud, or crying, Emma thought as she recalled trying to get other drunk friends to their rooms at school.

Emma was struggling to get Jenny inside. The trek across the lawn, up the small hill, to the house was exhausting enough. Clumsily making their way into the house, Emma stopped to eye the staircase.

"Jenny, if you fall, or make this harder than it has to be, I swear you're sleeping here." Emma quietly warned her cousin. Jenny replied by shifting her weight and bumping into the wall.

Emma shook her head and tried to get her cousin stepping at the same pace as herself. They had made it up several steps with only minor bumps and not much noise. Jenny seemed to really just want to slump against the wall, so rather than pull her off of it only to have the drunk girl bump against it on the next step, Emma just balanced Jenny's weight on the wall and proceeded to drag her cousin up the stairs.

Not exactly sober herself, Emma had to clasp a hand to her mouth when she let a laugh slip out. The sight of Jenny being dragged against the wall caught her off guard and she couldn't help it.

Between the bumping, the creaking of the stairs, and Emma's short but loud laugh, she fully expected to be met at the top of the stairs by one or more angry family members.

Emma blinked in surprise when she was met only by the dark hallway. By some miracle she had made it to the top of the stairs without dropping Jenny, and without getting caught. Needing to push her luck, Emma began the last leg of the journey to Jenny's room.

Emma was not overly religious by any means, but she offered up a small prayer of thanks to whatever divine being might be listening when the pair made it into Jenny's room safely.

Emma set Jenny down lightly on the bottom bunk, and wiped sweat from her own brow. The struggle up the stairs had her breathing hard and sweaty.

Ignoring her own discomfort for a bit longer, Emma begrudgingly began the last part of her task. Once she got Jenny into something better to sleep in, then she could seek out the comfort of her own bed, which was calling to her.
