Chapter 4 by velios velios

Anything grab your eye?

The Fortune Teller

The other attractions seem - at least mildly - suspicious in one way or another, and you probably shouldn't start eating so soon.

The fortune telling booth is straightforward enough...though you may have ulterior motives in making your choice. You duck into the tent, figuring you'll get a glimpse of something good, even if it's not your future.

The inside of the tent is dimly lit compared to the fair outside, and it takes your eyes a few seconds to adjust.

The inside of the tent looks a bit more impressive than the outside despite being made of the same thing; it's harder to tell that it's made of bedsheets in the darkness. Aside from that, there's a table in the center of the tent, with a chair on either side.

The chairs themselves are covered with some kind of cloth, but you can still tell that they're the standard folding chairs that the school uses for everything. The far chair occupied by Marissa, who is smiling mysteriously at you as you look around.

Once you can see clearly, you swallow slightly, Marissa's appearance hitting you like a truck. The lacy black dress isn't too unusual of an outfit, but the neckline is the lowest you've seen on her. In the dark tent, the milky white cleavage stands out all the more vividly, and it takes you a few seconds to remember not to openly stare. The amount of jewelry on her is also a fair bit more than usual.

The mysterious, knowing smile Marissa fixes you with makes you feel certain she noticed where you were looking. While you try not to flush self-consciously, she gestures in front of her, bangles on her wrists jangling.

"Have a seat...let me reveal your fate to you."

Take a seat, or duck out instead?
