You go to
The Engine room
There is a small desk with a terminal on it. It is always open as long as the ship is powered up, but it requires an access card to check it. Or a 32 digit code, which you have written on a note and hid it behind the terminal. Obviously you wrote the last three digits wrong, so anyone else who may find it won't know if it is real or not.
Next to the desk there is a locked panel. In there one can find the manual overrides for most systems of the ship. For example if a rat got in there and chewed the wrong cable, you could have all your cargo thrown in the space. Well it probably doesn't work like that, but you get the idea.
There is a small opening that leads inside "the engines". There are many different things in there. The crappy shield generator, the hyperdrive, the sublight engines and finally the power core. You could get in there but you would need a special suit to do that, as half of those things produce radiation when they are powered up.
Luckily, even if you got in there you would have absolutely no idea what to do, so you don't really need a suit.
