The Cows Had Gotten Loose!

Texas, surprised by the rattling, jumped outside the small office and drew her pistol. She thought for a second that someone was out there with her, but she almost immediately saw the crowd of cows that were rushing past, deeper into the gorge. She let out a sigh of relief, thanking her lucky stars that she had been just barely out of the stampede's reach. She stepped down off the office's steps and into the mud, adjusting her hat as she thought to herself,

"Now I need to check out the- Yipes!"

A misstep in the slippery muck sent Texas tumbling ass over teakettle. She splattered into the sludge, getting herself almost completely covered in what she prayed was mostly mud. She tried to pull herself up, but the suction of the muck was too much.

"Okay, no big deal, I just need to carefully pull myself up..."

Texas slowly yanked one leg out of the slop, and was making to pull the other out when she heard that rumbling return. Her eyes shrunk and her heart sank. It was all perfectly clear to her: The cows, having realized the gorge was a dead end, and redirected their stampede back out the way they came. Which was directly in her direction. She tried to keep a cool head and pull her other leg out, but ass the rumbling and rampant mooing grew louder and louder she couldn't keep calm. She yanked and struggled and shouted, but it was too late.

The cascade of cattle descended upon her and nearly fifty fat, filth-crushed hooves crashed down on her, smashing her into the muck and manure. The only mercy of the several tons of beef pulverizing her poor body was that it was at least quick. But as quick as it was, it had left Texas completely crushed into the mud. Her flattened form, combined with the suction of the sludge made it impossible for her to extricate herself without any help.
