The City

For the next few hours Jasper seethes with hunger. Then the sun begins to set. He licks his fangs in anticipation.

Viviene caresses his cheek.

“Remember, lover, we are food to one and other. Let the darkness grow.”

Jasper responds instinctively. “Let the darkness grow!”

Viviene disappears into a miasma of shadow and in moments is gone.

Jasper raises his arms and flows into the inky black of night. He moves over land hundreds of miles an hour, caressing the ground with his presence.

In minutes he is in the city. He slides down a darkened alley and returns to human form, exhilarated by the experience.

He senses the light within thousands of nearby people. None of them are scared of the dark. That will change he thinks.

He walks down the street and sees a bar. His hunger drives him toward it...
