Tell the truth

"Well, to tell you the truth, some men are after me. I don't know why, but it can't be for any good reasons. If I'm trespassing, I didn't mean to," he explained. He wondered if she thought he was lying.

She looked at him sternly, but lowered her gun. "To tell you the truth, something odd has been going on. My husband usually works, but he never got to work. My son never arrived at school, although my daughters did."

John frowned at her. "Are you saying the men have disappeared?"

She nodded. "It sure seems that way. If I'm right, then those pursuers of yours aren't men."

"But why would they want me?" John asked, perplexed.

The lady gave him an incredulous look. "How thick are you, sonny? If you're the only man left in the world, pretty much any woman is going to throw herself after you. Maybe you should come with me to my place so we can figure out what to do."
