Talk to the chief

"I'll take my chances." I say as I walk past the guard. who gives a small 'heh' as I pass.

I walk down the hall and around to some stairs past a small array of weapons and duplicate armor pieces. I pass a couple other guards in various stages of readiness, but they all shoot me side looks and I hear their whispers behind me as I walk by in my fancier plate armor. More cheap shots at a soon to be dead hero and how I didn't deserve my armor. I take the high road and ignore them, knowing my actions will speak for themselves.

I scale some stairs that lead up to the main meeting room to see two tall men standing on opposite sides of a table. One looks like a regular guard, but the one facing me has similar armor, but with some gold bands on his shoulder and a differently marked tabard. They are talking about something that is making the chief shake his head until he notices me and almost immediately rolls his eyes.

"Can I help you Paladin?" He asks me with the same tone the guards outside gave me. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea...

"Uh, yes! I'm looking to help the town and just wanted to know where you need the most help." I say ignoring his doubtful gaze.

"Well there's a group of murlocs harassing the villagers to the south. We don't really have the forces to leave the homes unguarded, but could use an extra hand to go out and thin their numbers on their home turf." He says and I unintentionally let out at annoyed sigh that the guard was right. He gives me a look at my sigh as I straighten back up.

"I was hoping for something a little more impactful. I killed a lot of boars and wolves during my training and need something...bigger." I say.

He glares at me for a second before he glances at the guard he was talking to when I came in. He raises his eyebrows before looking back at me. "Well there was actually just a call to arms from SouthShore. We got word there's going to be a raid on the village and are looking for some extra bodies to bolster their defenses. You'll get a chance to see some real combat. Worse case you die fighting to defend your country. Best case you actually survive and prove yourself."

I feel myself get excited at the sound of a raid and defending a village. But his half comment about me dying is lingering on the back of that excitement. Maybe I should head back to the quest board and go after something easier.
