Chapter 4 by Nemo of Utopia Nemo of Utopia

Is this the end of our tale, so soon? Or is there, as they say, a "Wrinkle" in the game?

Swords and Sorcery

I am a Samurai, Ronin perhaps, but Bushi None-the-Less. There is a woman who needs help here, and if I die defending her that is my Karma, nae? So doing my best to keep from being taken totally off guard I face down the larger of the two toad beasts while splitting my attention just enough to listen for the other one's rush, hoping to sidestep at the key moment and kill them both. The rush comes, and the toads coordinate perfectly, but there is something none of us were counting on.

From atop the pillar their is a shouted syllable and then a flash of light, even as I strike down the larger of the two remaining creatures it's companion reappears in my field of vision airborne and crushed to a pulp as though pummeled by a hundred fists. I can scarce believe what I have just seen but the danger is passed for the moment... or is it?

I look over to the pillar and find the woman starring at me, but her hands are encased in a rapidly fading orange glow and her eyes burn with orange fire. So, you are a sorceress then, humm? I think as I clean my blades with some of the sand and gravel that lies on the ground here, glancing now and then up at the beautiful but deadly woman standing on the pillar, waiting for a blast of eldretch fire that never comes...

"Are you going to help me down, sir knight?" She asks at length, and I am unsure how to respond, but only for a moment.

"Yes, I will, but first I would know your name Majo-San," I reply, pleased that though she seems to be Gaijin we both speak a common tongue.

For a second she looks thoughtful, then stricken, then almost panicked before she carefully sits down and weeps.

"You can't remember either, can you?" I ask, kindly so I hope, and her head snaps up as though spring loaded.

"Beg pardon?!?" She demands in shock.

"Your name, you cannot remember it any more than I can my own; can you?" I ask and she looks close to swooning with relief.

"No. I can't," she says with obvious relief that she is not the only one.

"Well then, you will have to chose one. For myself I have decided I shall be called 'Nemo of Utopia', which means 'No-One of Nowhere'. What will your name be?" I ask in what I hope is an encouraging tone.

"Well, I seem to remember that in the land I come from the term for a woman that no one knows what she is called was Jane Doe so I guess that is what I will call myself," She explains but just as she finishes she almost slips off the pillar and ends up hanging on by one hand! I rush over and brace her feet lowering her slowly to the ground and valiantly resisting the urge to look up her skirts, for which I am rewarded by a hug and a kiss on the cheek as soon as she is safely back on Terra-Firma. "You are a good man Nemo, a lot of men would have tried to feel me up just there, and that's the second time you've saved me in less than twenty minutes," Jane says as she dusts off her skirts. "I owe you my life, 'Arigato' to the highest degree," she declares bowing at the waist in a crude but heartfelt imitation of the Japanese style.

"Watashi wa jibun no meiyo ga yōkyū dake de nani o shimashita," I reply, but at her look of non-comprehension I translate, "I did only what my own honor demanded."

"That changes nothing, in fact it means I am more in your debt because I have no reward to offer you," Jane declares and thinks for a second, "I know, I can travel with you until I have saved your life, then we will be even!" she proclaims, and makes a sweeping gesture with her hands, "after you, Nemo-sama!" she declares.

Where to next?
