Sweet Talk and Compliment Adriana

“You want to know why?” you ask, and she tips her head a fraction. “It’s because you’re damn hot.”

She gives you an impetuous glance and says: “Tell me about it,” which you take literally.

“It starts in the face, because it always does, and you’ve got enchanting eyes,” you say, gesturing towards her twin hazel droplets. “And then your hair-like-a-waterfall, and your figure—”

“Well, you learn something new everyday,” she says, cutting you off.

“What?” you say, surprised by her blunt response.

“What I learned today is just how deep the well of male stupidity goes,” she says, rolling her eyes. But! You swear you see the corner of her mouth lifting upwards, so is there a chance that she’s… into this?

“And quite apparently, it’s not as deep as you are beautiful,” you say, “because I’m still absolutely enthralled by you.”

“I’m not one to usually turn down compliments, but could you turn it down,” she says.

“I’d like to keep it up,” you say, “and don’t pretend that there’s a part of you that would, too. Come on, it’s not everyday that a guy’s willing to pay this kind of attention to you.”

“You’re not even the second guy who’s tried to sweet talk me this last hour,” she says. “So I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Alright, alright, if you’re not into it, you can just get up and leave,” you say, and she shifts in her seat, a move that has you frightened for a beat, when all of a sudden the alarm goes off for the final time tonight.

“Guess you’ll never know why I left,” Adriana says, rising from her seat. She makes her way down towards the front of the room, where Alexei is speaking.

“Thank you for participating tonight,” Alexei says. “Now, if you would all kindly remove your name-tags, you’ll see that there’s a small box underneath your name—I would like you all to write-in the person who you would most like to stay in contact with after tonight, and drop off your answer in this box up here. Remember, you’ll only get put in contact with the other person if they put down your name too!”

You peel off your name-tag and spy Vishal, who’s already making his way down to the front, apparently having instantly decided who he wants to stick with. Adriana, for her part, stares at the slip of paper for a half-second before scribbling down something and dropping it off.

You, on the other hand, have a tough decision to make. There was the Zeta girl Avril, the curvaceous Amy, and finally, the sharp-tongued Adriana… A couple more seconds pass, and it seems like just about everyone else has submitted their name tag.

“What’s the hold up,” Vishal asks, with the good-natured grin on his face.

“Just making sure I’m making the right decision here,” you say, and you finally settle on a name. You write it down, and make your way to the box at the front, dropping it off with a flourish.
